13 trips to do with children at Easter: the best family getaways

Already planning your Easter holidays? If you are looking for a different and fun vacation, in which to enjoy nature, city tourism and the beauty of lots of corners to discover, venture out on one of the trips that we suggest.

These are 11 destinations or routes that we have grouped according to their tourist attraction . There is something for everyone: from elaborate routes by car or motorhome through Spain and Europe, to unusual and wonderful corners of our geography. Your family vacations are sure to be unforgettable!

nature tourism

These four destinations that we propose below have as a backdrop the most impressive nature of our Spanish geography . You will surely fall in love with its landscapes, while offering you the possibility of enjoying multiple family adventures.

Jerte Valley (Cáceres)

The Jerte Valley is famous for its cherries and in spring it has one of the most beautiful landscapes when its cherry trees begin to bloom , back in April. At that moment, the nearly one and a half million cherry trees in bloom turn the landscape into an indescribable spectacle, turning it white and enveloping the air with their sweet smell.

But in addition to enjoying nature and its fruits, the Valle del Jerte Tourist Office also proposes numerous leisure activities for adults and children. Such as guided hiking trails, multi-adventure circuits in the trees , paint ball or caving, among others. Check out more interesting topics on our site Faith Blog.

Cabárceno Park (Cantabria)

Just 17 kilometers from Santander is this natural enclave, unique in Spain, and a must-see for any family. It is a natural park that moves away from the traditional concept of a zoo to show the animals in a context of semi-freedom , with large areas that try to recreate a natural environment for the different species.

Rhinos, giraffes, elephants, gorillas, lions, cheetahs, brown bears and monkeys are among the wide variety of species that the little ones can enjoy. In addition, it is advisable not to miss the shows of birds of prey and sea lions that always manage to surprise children and adults.

The Cabárceno Park consists of 20 paved kilometers that guide the visitor through the areas inhabited by the different animals. That is why it is an ideal visit to be made by electric car, since it is better integrated into the habitat.

‘The Enchanted City’ and Cuenca

The Enchanted City of Cuenca is a tourist park located in the town of Valdecabras, and one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in our country . Not surprisingly, in 1929 it was declared a Natural Site of National Interest.

Its origin dates back to 90 million years ago, when the Enchanted City was part of the bottom of the Thetis sea. It was calm waters, which favored the deposition of salts, especially calcium carbonate.

At the end of the Cretaceous and as a consequence of the Alpine orogeny, the sea receded and the seabed, composed of limestone, emerged to the surface. Thousands of years of water, wind and ice action mean that today we can contemplate this impressive geological phenomenon that will blow the imagination of young and old .

And once we have visited the Enchanted City, we cannot fail to visit the city of Cuenca itself , which is one of the main monumental complexes in Spain, with great international projection and which made it declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The lakes of Covadonga (Asturias)

The Principality of Asturias is a particularly beautiful region full of natural landscapes that will leave us speechless. On this occasion we suggest you visit the Picos de Europa National Park , where the Covadonga , Enol and Ercina lakes are located. The landscape of the area is spectacularly beautiful, because the rocky immensity, the green vegetation and the blue of the waters are combined with the tranquility provided by the stillness of nature.

From here we can also visit the Basilica of Covadonga and the overwhelming and beautiful cave carved into the rock, as well as hiking through the Picos de Europa . Without a doubt, a formidable getaway that will recharge our batteries and that we will not forget!

Beach and city tourism

One of the options that never fail when traveling with children is to combine city tourism with the beach and nature by the sea . In this way, the little ones will be able to enjoy a wide range of possibilities and fun, and our vacations will not lack for anything.

Valencia, The City of Arts and Sciences and L’Albufera

Any corner of Valencia is perfect to go with children because it is a beautiful city, friendly and adapted to the little ones. But we especially recommend you visit the iconic City of Arts and Sciences , which will surprise you with its avant-garde architectural constructions and its wide cultural offer.

Among the buildings that make up the complex, the Oceanogràfic stands out , the largest aquarium in Europe that faithfully reproduces the most important marine ecosystems. With a volume of more than seven million liters of water, children will travel through the Atlantic Ocean through a tunnel, from which they will be able to see species such as the bull shark and the gray shark, among many others.

A must if we travel to Valencia is to visit the Albufera Natural Park , a protected area of great ecological interest, included in the European Natura 2000 protection network and considered a “wetland of international importance”.

Located just 10 km from the capital, La Albufera is a privileged place to enjoy nature and bird watching, either on foot or by boat.

This Natural Park offers the visitor numerous possibilities, such as discovering the Port of Catarroja, one of the main entry points to La Albufera, admiring the landscapes from the Mirador de la Gola de Pujol, or visiting El Palmar, a district located in the middle of the rice paddies.

San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia)

San Pedro del Pinatar has a formidable location , as it is only 35 kilometers from the beautiful city of Cartagena (famous for its natural landscapes and its architectural heritage), and 46 km from the capital, Murcia. In addition, being on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor, it has a great tourist and ecological attraction.

Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park is a wetland of great importance as it is a nesting and resting place for many species of birds . It has an area of 856 hectares, and a wide diversity of flora and fauna that make the environment a privileged natural space.

We propose this trip to enjoy with the children a walk along the marked trails or by bicycle along the bike path, stopping at any of the Park’s observatories to observe waterfowl up close. And if the weather is good, a swim in the natural beaches of the Regional Park or in the therapeutic mud baths will be the perfect complement to this unforgettable excursion.

City tourism and theme parks/attractions

Theme and amusement parks are always a safe bet when traveling with children, as they enjoy it enormously. For this reason, a great idea is to combine natural and city tourism with a visit to a children’s park, like the ones we propose.

Teruel, Albarracín and Dinopolis

Dinópolis Territory is a large park located in Teruel and in seven other towns in its province, including the beautiful medieval city of Albarracín . This theme park brings together science and fun to experience the fascinating world of dinosaurs up close.

A journey of 4.5 billion years in which children will be able to listen to the first beats of the Earth’s heart, discover how life arose and with it the most extraordinary creatures that have ever existed… The dinosaurs!

After enjoying the visit to Dinópolis , you cannot miss seeing Albarracín , a city that will captivate you with its old town, its winding cobbled streets and its natural landscapes. And of course also Teruel, famous for its Mudejar architecture.

Almeria, Cabo de Gata and Oasys MiniHollywood

Almería is a city to enjoy its beaches, its gastronomy, its nature and its culture . Among our leisure proposals, El Cabo de Gata stands out, one of those wonderful places that we recommend you visit with children.

Its volcanic landscape of reddish and ocher tones, the blue of the sea and its flora, with more than 1,000 species, make this area the perfect place to stop time and admire it with all five senses. Cabo de Gata is located in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park , recognized as a Geopark and Biosphere Reserve, as well as being a ZEPA zone (Special Protection Area for Birds) and a Wetland of international importance.

We propose this trip to enjoy nature in all its splendour , thanks also to the numerous leisure activities and outdoor sports that we can do with children, as well as the visit to the Gata Lighthouse and the Sirens Reef.

And you cannot leave Almería without enjoying Oasys MiniHollywood , the most original theme park in the Mediterranean located in Tabernas, the only desert in Europe and only 30 km from the capital.

Oasys MiniHollywood has live shows, a large zoological reserve with more than 800 animals of 200 different species, a swimming pool area and a wide range of restaurants, and educational activities.

The windmills of Campo de Criptana, Almagro, Bolaños de Calatrava, Manzanares, Villanueva de los Infantes and, of course, Argamasilla de Alba and El Toboso, a natural town of Dulcinea, are just some of the mythical settings that we can visit on this spectacular route. .

Route through the Catalan Pyrenees

On the Buena Ruta website they offer us this wonderful itinerary through the north of Catalonia and with the Pyrenees on the horizon . An excellent alternative to enjoy nature in its purest form, and rural tourism through picturesque inland villages.

Our trip has a route of approximately 360 km, and starts from Pals, a beautiful town surrounded by nature with incredible beaches and paths between dunes to enjoy on foot or by bicycle. From there we will advance to Bañolas, Santa Pau and Besalú, a spectacular medieval town where we can enjoy its historical and artistic ensemble .

This route will also take us to the enclaves of Puigcerdá, Solsona, Seu d’Urgell, Sort and La Guingueta, where we will end the tour delighting ourselves with its mountainous landscapes, its pastures and the Torrasa reservoir.

Route through the northern half of Portugal

Portugal is a beautiful country that has a lot to offer . Its climate, its proximity to our country and its beautiful beaches make it a perfect tourist destination for Spanish families. In addition, Portugal has a careful network of campsites and motorhome parking that will make our trip more pleasant if we opt for this means of transport.

We propose a trip through the northern half of the country, starting from the beautiful city of Viana do Castelo and ending in the medieval Leiria . In total, more than 400 km that will not leave you indifferent and that you can do in a comfortable and relaxed way, setting your own pace.

Viana do Castelo is one of the most beautiful cities in the north of Portugal, with an important maritime tradition. From Mount Santa Luzia you can see its privileged location and views of the city that will dazzle us.

In Viana do Castelo there is much to see, as the city has emblazoned palaces, churches, convents, chafarices and fountains that constitute a heritage worth visiting. But in Viana not everything is architectural and cultural tourism, and families who love sports will also find a wide range of activities to do with children, such as cycling, hiking, surfing, sailing, rowing or canoeing on the Lima River.

100 km from Viana is Porto , the second largest city in Portugal declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Porto captivates the visitor with its history, its stately neighborhoods, its shopping areas and its colorful and labyrinthine streets along the banks of the Duero.

And right in the center of Portugal, 130 km from Porto , we find the city of Viseu , which stands on a plateau surrounded by mountains and rivers. Viseu will enchant you with its medieval atmosphere, its palaces and stone buildings, and its lush gardens.

After 140 km, continuing our journey to the southwest, we will arrive in Coimbra, known as “the city of students” for its famous university . Coimbra is a UNESCO World Patronage, and has important architectural monuments to visit. Our trip will end in the medieval city of Leiria, just 75 km away.

On our way through Portuguese lands we will have been able to enjoy its rich gastronomy, its climate and its fine sand beaches. If we have chosen to travel by motorhome, we can choose between the more than 100 campsites registered in the ACSI Association for our accommodation. Among them, we will surely find those that best suit our needs.

Route through France to Disneyland Paris

And among our recommendations for family trips, the star route for any child could not be missing : a trip to Disneyland Paris in a motorhome, which will depart from Barcelona and will cover approximately 1,000 km.

On our trip we will take the opportunity to get to know the city of Toulouse, the Dordogne-Périgord regions , -which will fascinate us with its castles, medieval towns and prehistoric sites declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO-, and the Tarn region , which will captivate us. for its medieval constructions and its nature.

Other obligatory stops on our route are the city of Bourges , which will leave us speechless with its imposing cathedral declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and of course, Paris, where we can spend several days before visiting the Disneyland Park.

France is a country perfectly prepared for campers and motorhomes, so along this route you will find endless areas enabled to spend the night with the motorhome, as well as numerous campsites specially designed for family holidays. When you arrive at Disneyland you can leave the motorhome in a parking lot located next to the car park, and enjoy all the services offered by this area with privileged views of Sleeping Beauty’s castle, which will surely delight the little ones.
